Voting..

After a discussion with Baubo I have decided to start or join a voting campaign.. I was actually thinking about a festival of some sort w/ attractions for young voters: music/entertainment, food, a drawing... with voters registration booths...we could invite local politicians, and special interest groups.. maybe have a silent auction to raise money for a good relevant cause.. I know that the big elections are a while off and I would like to have it around then, but would anyone be interested in brainstorming/ helping me organize such a thing?

Vancouver Peace and Justice Fair was a big success this year, with a record number of exhibitors and vendors (54, compared to last year's 22!) and a wonderful energy that lasted throughout the day. I was so pleased to see so many people come out to support this awesome event in Vancouver Washington. Lyra and I, through the Silent Auction, helped raise $555.50 for this year's selected charity, Doctors Without Borders. It was such an incredible day with food music, diverse performances, free stuff, and of course the exhibit of the John Denver Memorial Peace Quilt, which everybody got to add to. Can't wait 'til next year!!

Warmest Regards,
BauboDurga

Silent Auction!!!

Hello everyone!

As some of you know, I'm involved with the Vancouver Peace and Justice Fair, which is happening in Esther Short Park on September 24th. I have volunteered to chair the silent auction, and am looking for donations. Each item donated will have your name (or your business name) clearly advertised on the auction bid lists. All proceeds go to benefit the Vancouver Peace and Justice Fair.

So far, the donations consist of an hand-crocheted afghan, a handmade doily, and a pasta dinner gift basket. I am accepting new items only. They can be handcrafted goods, gift certificates for items or services, etc. I encourage in-kind donations!

You all know I'm an avid volunteer. This is something I really believe in, and I'm asking for your help with this! If you or someone you know could donate for this cause, I'd really appreciate it.

If you wish to donate, please email me at crimsonslumber@hotmail.com for a donation form. Thanks!

Please visit the website at: http://www.vancouverpeaceandjusticefair.org
or the tribe at http://vancouverpjf.tribe.net
John Denver Memorial Peace Quilt

Just dropping a line to say "hey" to everyone out there. I believe this Vancouver Peace and Justice Fair is a really cool idea. If anyone out there knows of any Peace-oriented organizations that they would like to see represented at the Fair, post them here or send them to the website at: www.VancouverForPeace.org

One really amazing thing happening at the Fair this year: The John Denver Memorial Peace Quilt will be there (it's huge!), and we will be adding to it! We will have a booth set up with materials and paints, etc, so that anyone who comes to the Fair can put their hand to enlarging this wonderful Peace artifact. The Quilt, which travels around the country but resides in Vancouver USA, can be viewed until the day of the Fair at the August Moon Community Center in Vancouver. Go have a look!

As I have with many of these topics, I copy/pasted the stuff from the website into here. :)

Would you like to have an exhibit space at the Vancouver Peace and Justice Fair? We realize there are various types of groups that will want to be part of the fair, and the cost of an exhibit space is on a sliding scale depending on the type of group.

To keep the prices low, each group will need to provide their own table and, if desired, an awning. You will be assigned a 10' x 10' space on the grass in the park.

We have a sliding scale for reserving your space. Please consider how much you are able to pay, and pay accordingly. We welcome any donations beyond these amounts.

Non-profit groups $15 if you pre-register by Sept 1, $25 after Sept 1.
Businesses and for-profit groups $25 if you pre-register by Sept 1, $35 after Sept 1.
If you are planning to sell food, you need to know a lot more information, and supply us with more information as well.

Exhibitors at the fair need to emphasize how they promote peace and social justice! Political organizations may only present their work for and positions on peace and social justice. If you are a religious group, your materials should reflect how you work for or what you believe about peace and social justice.

If you are interested in reserving an exhibit space at the Peace and Justice Fair, please visit the website at http://vancouverpeaceandjusticefair.org/
